What is NDIS

The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) oversees and administers the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), established in 2013. To qualify for NDIS funding, you must:

  • Be an Australian citizen or hold a Permanent or Special Category visa
  • Be between the ages of 7 and 65
  • Have a significant and ongoing disability

The NDIS offers a new way for individuals with disabilities to receive funding for the support they need. With NDIS funding, individuals can create a personalised plan that connects them to various services, groups, and activities, such as:

  • Disability accommodation and housing providers
  • Healthcare professionals, including doctors and therapists
  • Employment services tailored for people with disabilities
  • Local community organisations, libraries, and schools

The NDIS provides people with disabilities, along with their families and cares, with:

  • Greater choice in the supports they receive
  • Enhanced control and flexibility over how and when these supports are delivered
  • A lifetime approach to disability support, with plans that adapt to changing personal circumstances
  • More opportunities for early intervention, helping to address needs before they escalate
